The Hembrugterrein comes together this weekend for Happy Hembrug: a free festival filled with live music, art, food, workshops, children’s activities and local history.
Taking place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, Happy Hembrug invites visitors of all ages to explore the many creative organisations, cultural venues and unique locations found across the historic site.
Live music forms an important part of the weekend. Saturday’s programme features established artists from the Zaan region, while Sunday offers a stage to emerging local talent.
From soul, funk and pop to sing-along favourites and exciting new sounds, the programme offers something to discover throughout the day.
During Happy Hembrug, studios and creative locations across the site will open their doors. Visitors can explore exhibitions, photography, installations and open studios while meeting the artists and makers behind the work.
A varied workshop programme also gives visitors the opportunity to get creative themselves, including a workshop hosted by The Tattoo Temple. Rather than simply observing, visitors are invited to participate, experiment and discover the creative side of the Hembrugterrein.
Several food courts and hospitality venues will serve a wide range of international street food, handmade dishes, sweet treats, coffee and surprising flavours.
Whether you are looking for a quick snack, a relaxed lunch or a place to sit down together, the different food spots offer plenty of opportunities to taste and connect.
Happy Kids brings workshops, performances and interactive activities to younger visitors.
Circus Snor will add its colourful world of circus to the festival with humorous performances, acrobatics and opportunities for children to try different circus skills themselves. Families can also discover creative activities and playful experiences at various locations across the site.
The military and industrial history of the Hembrugterrein remains visible throughout its buildings and surroundings.
Happy History invites visitors to follow a special route across the site and discover its historical locations and hidden stories. Together with the programme presented by the Hembrug Museum, the route shows how the former industrial site has transformed into the creative and cultural destination it is today.
TAETS Art and Event Park is proud to be one of the participating locations during Happy Hembrug.
Throughout the weekend, we will open our doors for guided tours and offer visitors a unique look behind the scenes of our industrial event venue. Discover the history and architecture of our monumental buildings and learn how these spaces are now used for large-scale events, art and cultural experiences.
It is a rare opportunity to explore a side of TAETS that visitors do not usually get to see.
Happy Hembrug is free to attend and takes place across the Hembrugterrein.
